Create a versatile condo gym in Montreal that follows the building's natural, earthy theme.
Overview
Bosco is a condo complex in Montreal built around natural, earthy tones, and its gym needed to feel like part of the same building. Alpha Fitness equipped the condo gym with commercial gym equipment in white with black upholstery, a combination that sits cleanly against the room's dark green accent wall, its plants, and its large street-facing windows. The aim of the condo gym design was a versatile fitness room where residents can train strength, cardio, and mobility without the space losing its calm, natural look. Alpha Fitness designed the layout, supplied equipment customized in the project's colours, and handled the installation.
What Makes This Gym Unique
Equipment that matches the room
White frames and black upholstery against a green feature wall and plants keep the gym consistent with the rest of the building.
Two exercises per machine
A leg extension and lying leg curl combo and a lat pulldown and mid-row combo each give residents two exercises in the floor space of one machine.
Wooden Swedish ladders
Two wall-mounted wooden ladders, used for stretching, mobility work, and bodyweight exercises, bring natural wood into the training area.
The Challenge
Residents of a condo building train in different ways. Some lift, some run, and some only stretch. The Bosco residents' gym had to serve all of them in one space, and every piece of condo gym equipment also had to suit the building's natural theme.
Alpha Fitness's Contribution
Strength stations
A Smith machine, which guides the barbell along fixed vertical rails with safety catches so residents can lift heavy weights without a spotter, and a functional trainer with two adjustable cable pulleys and a multi-grip pull-up bar.
Combo machines
Two selectorized combo machines. On a selectorized machine, the user sets the resistance by moving a pin in a weight stack, which suits residents who are new to strength training.
Free weights
Rubber hex dumbbells on a white three-tier rack, and Alpha adjustable benches with backrest settings from 0 to 85 degrees and wheels for moving them around the room.
Cardio
A row of treadmills facing the windows and a set of indoor cycling bikes.
Studio room
A separate glass-walled room for stretching and floor work, equipped with medicine balls, balance trainers, and exercise mats.
The result is a condo gym in Montreal where residents can complete a full strength, cardio, and mobility session in one gym, with equipment that looks like it was chosen for the building rather than added to it.
In the Designer's Words
Watch Sophie Plante's interview about the Bosco gym"Bosco means forest, so nature and a return to our roots. We really wanted to bring greenery in, and there are plant elements throughout the whole project. Working with Alpha meant having a choice of colour for the equipment. We wanted to keep a certain softness, and we wanted to stand out. We wanted a soft environment, but still a very complete gym: we have the Swedish ladders, multifunction machines, the cardio treadmills, and a private training room too. So, very, very varied."
