The practical split looks like this:

The number of platforms follows how many athletes lift at once, not a fixed rule. A room that trains full teams needs enough platforms and racks for a position group to work in parallel. Those stations came from four double-sided half racks and two additional custom racks, which is what lets ten athletes train at once in the same footprint. Just as important is how the platforms sit. Most athletic programs allocate more space to racks, platforms, barbells and dumbbells than to machines. There is no universal ratio, however. The right balance depends on the sports being trained, the athletes’ needs, and the coaching philosophy.
Free weights often form the foundation because they support a wide range of compound movements and make it possible for several athletes to follow the same program at once. Machines can still play an important role for accessory exercises, targeted strength development, rehabilitation and training around an injury.

The Carabins centre includes a four-tier dumbbell rack with a sliding bottom row for easier access to the heaviest weights. It also includes jammer arms, which are lever arms attached to a rack for different pressing and pushing movements.
Several equipment lines offered by Alpha Fitness are manufactured to order. This allows a program’s colours and logo to be integrated during production rather than added afterward. Velocity-based training, or VBT, means setting a lifter's load by how fast the bar moves rather than by a fixed percentage of their maximum. A small sensor tracks bar speed on each rep and tells the coach whether to add weight or back off. A room that supports it needs stable platforms, reliable power at each station, and enough space for a device on every bar.
The design implications are concrete, and they come down to three things at every station:
Power. A source within reach at each platform for sensors and displays.
Sightlines. A clear view so a coach can read speed data across the whole floor.
Spacing. Room for a device or tripod at each bar without crowding the next athlete.
A room laid out only for the lift itself, with no thought to power or sightlines, forces a program to work around a floor that was never planned for how it actually trains.
Flooring in a strength and conditioning room should be selected according to the activities taking place in each zone. Areas used for Olympic lifting or repeated bar drops may require purpose-built platforms or high-impact rubber systems, while general training and circulation areas may use a lighter commercial rubber surface.

The correct system depends on the thickness and density of the flooring, the subfloor and the amount of impact expected. When slab protection, acoustics or structural vibration are concerns, the final specification should be validated with the appropriate flooring or building professional.
At the Carabins centre, the weightlifting platforms were integrated flush with the surrounding floor. This removed the raised edges found on traditional surface-mounted platforms and created a smoother transition between training stations.
Room size follows the number of athletes training together and the equipment each one needs, not a square-foot rule of thumb. Plan enough floor for every station a squad uses at once, plus clearance to move loaded bars safely and space for a coach to see the whole room. Under-size the room, and athletes end up waiting for equipment, which breaks the coached-session model the room exists to support.
Five things drive the number:
Simultaneous athletes. The number of athletes training at once sets how much floor the room needs.
Station count. The platforms and racks that many athletes need at once.
Platform footprint. The floor each platform takes, landing space included.
Clearance. Room between stations to move loaded bars safely.
Storage. Dedicated space so plates and accessories stay off the floor.

Recovery space is the part athletic programs cut first and regret later. A performance room should reserve open floor for mobility, warm-up, and soft-tissue work, along with room for any recovery equipment the program uses. Treating recovery as a planned zone rather than leftover space keeps warm-ups off the lifting platforms and keeps the session moving.
When recovery has no home, it spills onto the training floor. Athletes stretch on platforms that another group needs, warm-ups compete with working sets, and the room feels more crowded than its square footage should allow. A defined recovery zone, set to one side and out of the lifting lanes, protects both the training flow and the athletes using it.
